O6 Afterschool

The primary program of the Original Six Foundation, O6 Afterschool, serves students in grades two through eight and provides a safe place to learn while filling educational gaps. Individualized homework assistance is provided by certified teachers who not only care about their students but help them develop the strong study habits that carry them through high school and beyond. Emphasis is placed on interactive learning—particularly in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math—awakening curiosity and igniting a new love of learning. And we make it fun, including time for team games, social interaction and more.

The result? Students in O6 Afterschool most often show significant academic improvement as well as increased self-esteem and confidence. Funded by donors who support the Original Six Foundation, there is never a charge to attend, and all services offered are free.

O6 Afterschool offers a small classroom setting with a 13:1 teacher/student ratio.

A Closer Look at O6 Afterschool

When we started the O6 afterschool program, we realized that several of the students (mostly girls) lacked confidence, even if they knew the answers to questions. As we completed more STEM activities, the students gained confidence. They were able to work with a group of peers on building something, discovering what did/didn't work and trying again - not focusing on the "fails." This has translated into academics, too. The students have more confidence when completing assignments and are no longer timid when asking questions or looking for assistance.
