Richburg, S.C.— The Original Six Foundation (O6 Foundation) today announced over $50,000 raised to support educational afterschool programs in South Carolina’s rural districts. Nearly 100 participants from businesses and organization across the Carolinas took part in the inaugural O6 Foundation sporting clay tournament fundraiser held at Rocky Creek Sporting Clays in Richburg.

“This is what the O6 is all about, neighbors helping neighbors. We couldn’t be more thankful for the overwhelming support from the business community. These kids are meant for great things, and through these generous donations we will be able to make a real difference their lives,” said Ambassador Nikki Haley, founder and chair of the O6 Foundation.

Top sponsors who made the event possible include: BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Collum's Lumber Products, Eutaw Outfitters, Frank's Car Wash, Hood Construction Company, Inc., Koppers Utility and Industrial Products, Lakeside Lodge-Clemson and Rocky Creek Sporting Clays.

“We are so grateful to Rocky Creek Sporting Clays for their commitment to helping make this event a success for our students. Their facility is beautiful, and their staff is second to none. We look forward to making the tournament an annual fundraiser and are excited to grow the event for years to come,” said Nicki Hood, executive director of the O6 Foundation.

Practice Makes Perfect Homework Centers reinforce school day learning and aid students in the completion of their take home assignments. The centers provide a safe space for students after school and offer hands-on, individual support from teachers and volunteers to help them achieve their academic goals. Each center operates Monday through Thursday with at least two certified teachers who understand each student’s individual needs. Currently serving hundreds of students Allendale, Bamberg, Clarendon, Marion, and Union counties, the O6 Foundation hopes to expand its reach over the current school year. Since 2016, they have served over 2,500 students and have engaged hundreds of teachers providing over 3,200 of hours of specialized afterschool assistance.

In addition to afterschool programming, the O6 Foundation has donated almost 12,500 books to local schools and communities and has provided literacy support tools to over 2,000 students in South Carolina’s rural districts.

Founded in 2011, by then-Governor Haley, the O6 Foundation believes children across South Carolina deserve a quality education regardless of where they are born and raised. The O6 Foundation works to improve education by identifying gaps and filling them through hands on engagement and resources.
