Original Six Announces Expansion of After-School Programs
Nonprofit Will Double Practice Makes Perfect Homework Centers Serving Rural S.C. Students for 2019-2020 School Year
Columbia, S.C.— Original Six Foundation (O6 Foundation) today announced an expansion of the organization’s Practice Makes Perfect Homework Centers into Allendale County at Allendale-Fairfax Middle School, Marion County at Palmetto Middle School, and a new location in Bamberg County at Denmark-Olar Elementary School. Previously serving fourth through eighth grade students, the O6 Foundation’s after-school programing will extend to third grade students for the 2019-2020 school year. All programs kick off today, Monday, September 9, 2019.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be partnering with local communities and schools in our rural districts to reach even more South Carolina students. These kids are smart and they are excited to learn. We want to give them the extra attention and resources they need to think big, dream big, and know the sky is the limit for them,” said Ambassador Nikki Haley, founder and chair of O6 Foundation.
Practice Makes Perfect Homework Centers aim to provide students with hands-on, individual support from teachers and volunteers in order to achieve their academic goals. Each program operates Monday through Thursday with at least two certified teachers and aids students in the completion of homework assignments in order to reinforce school day learning.
“Without O6 Foundation’s Practice Makes Perfect Homework Program, the students of Jonesville Elementary Middle would not have access to homework assistance. Having the program housed within our building allows for constant communication between the classroom teachers and program teachers, making it easier to meet the needs of our students,” said Jonesville Elementary Middle Reading Coach Crystal Bryant.
In addition to the new locations opening today, existing programs in Bamberg County at Richard Carroll Elementary School, Clarendon County at Manning Junior High School, and Union County at Jonesville Elementary Middle School will continue into the 2019-2020 school year.
Founded in 2011 by then-Governor Haley, O6 Foundation believes children across South Carolina deserve a quality education regardless of where they are born and raised. O6 Foundation works to improve education by identifying gaps and filling them through hands on engagement and resources.
