Richburg, S.C.— The Original Six Foundation (O6 Foundation) announced over $70,000 raised for educational programs supporting students in South Carolina’s rural school districts. Nearly 100 participants from businesses and organizations across the Carolinas took part in the 2nd Annual O6 Foundation sporting clay tournament fundraiser held at Rocky Creek Sporting Clays.

“Thank you to everyone who made this our best event yet. While you may never meet our students, they will forever be impacted by what you have done for them. Because of you, students across the state- regardless of where they are born and raised- will be able to go to school feeling confident with the resources they need to succeed,” said Ambassador Nikki Haley, founder and chair of the O6 Foundation.

Top sponsors who made the event possible include Carolina Brick Company, Alliance Consulting Engineers, Inc., Collum Lumber Products, LLC, Keowee Dock & Repair, Hood Construction Company, LLC, and Rocky Creek Sporting Clays.

“We are grateful for our sponsors. Without their commitment, we would not be able to support 4,000 students in 12 counties this year. Students in rural South Carolina need us today more than ever and we stand ready to continue to improve their educational experience,” said Nicki Hood, executive director of the O6 Foundation.

The O6 Foundation provides after-school programming through its Practice Makes Perfect Homework Centers, where certified instructors reinforce school-day learning and aid students in the completion of their take-home assignments. The centers provide a safe space for students after school and offer individual support from teachers and volunteers to help them achieve their academic goals.

Currently adjusting to COVID-19 restrictions, Practice Makes Perfect Homework Centers are working to provide hundreds of students access to supplemental instruction in Allendale, Bamberg, Clarendon, Marion, and Union counties, with the goal of expanding throughout the school year. Since 2016, these centers and other supportive efforts have served over 5,000 students and through a partnership with hundreds of teachers have provided over 8,500 of hours of specialized assistance.

In addition to after-school programming, this year the O6 Foundation has assumed leadership of the My First Library program. It provides South Carolina’s highest-need students with at-home libraries to encourage reading.

In order to provide an early advantage, My First Library works with 5K students to ensure they are prepared to enter the first grade.

Founded in 2011, by then-Governor Haley, the O6 Foundation believes children across South Carolina deserve a quality education regardless of where they are born and raised. The O6 Foundation works to improve education by identifying gaps and filling them through hands on engagement and resources.
