Nick Washington Selected for Leadership Role with Inagural Riley Institute Program
Columbia, S.C.— The Original Six Foundation (O6 Foundation) is proud to announce that Program Director, Nick Washington, has been selected as an inaugural cohort in the South Carolina Afterschool Leaders Empowered (SCALE) program, a new initiative offered by the Riley Institute at Furman University.
SCALE is offered in partnership with and funded by a $1.3 million grant from the South Carolina Department of Education as part of the aid the agency received from the American Rescue Plan to address the academic impact of COVID-19, particularly among youth in need of additional supports to complete unfinished learning.
“We are grateful to the Riley Institute for this unique opportunity for Nick to learn from and with other afterschool and summer learning leaders in the state. We understand the need for adequate afterschool programming is greater today than ever before due to the impacts of COVID-19. As we work to grow our afterschool programming to more schools, I am confident Nick’s participation in the SCALE program will help strengthen our impact,” said Nicki Hood, O6 Foundation Executive Director.
Twenty-one leaders were selected for the inaugural cohort. They represent nearly a third of the state’s school districts, a variety of organizations, and a mix of rural, suburban, and urban areas.
Taking place over the course of 10 months, SCALE cohorts will participate in monthly webinars, take a field trip to a nationally-acclaimed summer learning program and complete a capstone project related to afterschool or summer learning.
