Original Six Foundation Announces Board Expansion

Columbia, S.C.— The Original Six Foundation (The O6 Foundation) announced the addition of four new members to their Board of Trustees. These four individuals join the nine other civic, business, and industry leaders from across South Carolina. Ambassador Nikki Haley serves as the chair of the foundation.

New board members include, Tyler Bailey of the Bailey Law Firm; L.L.C., Dr. Suzanne Koty of the Center of Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA); Dr. Akil Ross of Lexington-Richland School District Five; and Candace Shiver of The Shiver Group.

“The mission of the Original Six has never been more important. Over the past two years our children lost a huge part of their education. Without strong leadership we would not be able to provide results to students across South Carolina. We are excited to welcome our new board members to the team but more importantly we are ready to get to work,” said Ambassador Nikki Haley, founder and chair of the O6 Foundation.

Currently, the O6 Foundation provides afterschool homework assistance to students in Allendale County at Allendale-Fairfax Middle School, in Bamberg County at Richard Carroll Elementary School and Denmark-Olar Elementary School, in Clarendon County at Manning Junior High School, in Hampton County at North District Middle School, in Marion County at Palmetto Middle School, and in Union County at Jonesville Elementary and Middle School. Each program operates with at least two certified teachers and serves students Monday through Thursday.

In addition to after school homework support, the O6 Foundation has a literacy program called My First Library. Taking place every May, this program impacts thousands of K5 students in the state’s highest-need areas by providing them with summer reading books to build at-home libraries. This May, the My First Library will impact over 3,000 students in 5K to ensure they are prepared to enter the first grade. Targeting resources at this stage of development is critical to a child’s future academic success and is an under-served effort across the state.

Founded in 2011, by then-Governor Haley, the O6 Foundation believes children across South Carolina deserve a quality education regardless of where they are born and raised. The O6 Foundation works to improve education by identifying gaps and filling them through hands on engagement and resources.
